Is Your Carpet Wrinkled, Rippled or Loose?
- Carpet that feels loose or "spongy" underfoot
- Bunching near doorways or high-traffic paths
- Carpet pulling away from tack strips or transitions
- Wrinkles that have gotten worse over time
- Edges lifting along baseboards
What Causes Carpet Wrinkles?
Carpet is installed under tension, held in place along the edges by tack strips. Over time that tension can loosen from everyday foot traffic, furniture being moved across the carpet, humidity and temperature changes common in Florida homes, improper installation, or simply age. Once the backing relaxes, the carpet has nowhere to go but up — which shows up as wrinkles and ripples.
Can My Carpet Be Re-Stretched?
In many cases, yes. Carpet stretching uses a power stretcher to pull the carpet taut and re-secure it along the tack strips, without removing or replacing the carpet itself. Whether re-stretching is the right fix depends on the carpet's age, condition, and how it was originally installed — which is exactly what an in-person or photo-based estimate is for.
Carpet Stretching vs. Carpet Replacement
Replacing a carpet because of wrinkles or looseness can mean paying for new material and installation when the carpet itself may still have plenty of life left. Stretching addresses the underlying tension problem directly, which is why it's worth having a professional take a look before assuming replacement is the only option.
Our Carpet Stretching Process
We assess the carpet and padding, identify what's causing the looseness, and use professional power-stretching equipment to pull the carpet back into place and re-secure it. We'll let you know up front if stretching isn't likely to solve the problem.
